1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene, or more commonly DBU, is a chemical compound and belongs to the class of amidine compounds. It is used in organic synthesis as a catalyst, a complexing ligand, and a non-nucleophilic base.

The application of DBU

• DBU is used as a curing agent for epoxy; it is used as a protecting agent for the synthesis of cephalosporin.

• DBU is used in fullerene purification with trimethylbenzene (it reacts to C70 and higher fullerenes but not to C60 fullerenes); and it is also used as a catalyst for polyurethane. It has a strong catalyst effect for the reactions of alicyclic and aliphatic isocyanates.

• DBU is mainly used as a good organic alkali deacidification agent in drug synthesis. It can replace the organic bases such as triethylamine, N, N-amine, pyridine and quinoline,and is widely used in organic synthesis and semi-synthetic antibiotics, and to obtain satisfactory results in the dehydrohalogenation reaction.

• DBU is widely used in the cephalosporin production of semi-synthetic antibiotics, such as ammonia reaction into piperazineand in the presence of DBU . DBU can also be used as a rust inhibitor.
