Poison by ingestion, intravenous, and intraperitoneal routes. Moderately toxic by subcutaneous route. Experimental teratogenic and reproductive effects. A uricosuric agent which promotes the excretion of uric acid in the urine. A flammable liquid. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Br. See also KETONES.
