Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by benzoyl chloride and (2R,3S)-3-Phenylisoserine. This reaction will need reagent 10 percent aq. NaHCO3. The reaction time is 6 hours with reaction temperature of 4 ℃. The yield is about 74%.

Uses of Benzenepropanoic acid, β-(benzoylamino)-α-hydroxy-, (αR,βS)-: it can be used to produce (2R,3S)-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-benzamido-2-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanamide at temperature of 20 °C. This reaction is a kind of Acylation. It will need reagent carbonyldiimidazole and solvent tetrahydrofuran with reaction time of 12 hours. The yield is about 53%.
