Niridazole (CAS NO.61-57-4) is used for a treatment of schistosomiasis, the helmintic invasy which caused by a flatworm (thrematod) named schistosoma (old name - bilharzia). It has recently also been investigated for use in the treatment of periodontitis.

Human mutation data reported. Used as an amoebicide and schistosomicidal agent. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of SOx and NOx.
