The Octadecafluorooctane is also known as perfluorooctane, which is a perfluorinated derivative of the hydrocarbon octane. In high voltage electronics, it can be a good substitute for insulating oil. In addition to heat transfer applications, it has also been used as a breathable fluid in partial liquid ventilation. When you are using this chmical, please take cautions as follows: Octadecafluorooctane is quite irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. Avoiding contact with skin and eyes, please wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

The Octadecafluorooctane can be derived from 2-(1,1,2,3,3,3-hexafluoropropyl)oxepane in nickel tube at 440 °C, CoF3, CaF2 as reagent. Yield is 45 %.
