The Polyethylene glycol monocetyl ether, with the CAS registry number 9004-95-9, is also known as Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-hexadecyl-omega-hydroxy-. This chemical's molecular formula is (C2H4O)nC16H34O. What's more, its systematic name is 1-Hexadecanol, monoether with polyethylene glycol. Its classification codes are: (1)Surface-active agents; (2)TSCA Flag XU [Exempt from reporting under the Inventory Update Rule]. This chemical is unstable at common pressure and temperature, and it should be sealed and stored in a cool and dry place. Its storage temperature is 2 - 8 °C. Moreover, it should be protected from open fire, high temperature and moisture. It is used as a solubilizer and emulsifying agent in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, and is often used as an ointment base and a research tool. 

Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by condensation and neutralization between 1 mol C12-fatty alcohols and 8 mol ethylene oxide. The product is got by decoloration finally.
