Synthesis of Potassium heptafluorotantalate: It can be produced by both anhydrous and wet methods. For example, the anhydrous method involves the reaction of tantalum oxide with ammonium bifluoride and the reaction with potassium fluoride at 300-400 °C:
Ta2O5 + 7 NH4HF2 → 2 NH4TaF6 + 5 H2O + 2 HF + 5 NH3
NH4TaF6 + 2 KF → K2TaF7 + NH3 + HF
