(The
A powerful oxidant. A dangerous fire and explosion hazard. A high explosive sensitive to shock, friction, or heat. More sensitive to shock and friction than TNT. Explodes on contact with trioxygen difluoride. Ignites on contact with hydrazine. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx. See also NITRATES and EXPLOSIVES, HIGH.

Tetryl(479-45-8) is an odorless yellow crystalline solid that is not found naturally in the environment.
The Structure of Tetryl(479-45-8):
Tetryl(479-45-8) is a high explosive with intermediate sensitivity and is used as abase charge in blasting caps, as the booster explosive in high-explosive shells, and as an ingredient of binary explosives.
Tetryl(479-45-8) is manufactured by the action of mixed sulfuric and nitric acid on dimethylaniline in a multiple-stage nitration。
It may also be manufactured by alkylating 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene with methylamine followed by nitration.
