stiripentol is an anti-epileptic compound that inhibits cyp3a4, cyp1a2, and cyp2c19 in vivo in epileptic patients. because of its inhibitory effect on cytochrome p450, it is known to inhibit the metabolism of clobazam, another anti-epileptic agent. it enhances the release of gaba and prolongs the gabaa receptor-mediated currents in rat hippocampal neurons. stiripentol is an efficacious drug in treating severe myoclonic epilepsy in infancy. stiripentol may be used in gabaa receptor-mediated cell signaling studies.
