Temperature-jump kinetic data of the nickel(II) chelation with diethylmalonic acid at 25°C and ionic strength 0.10M provide further support to the previous conclusions that chelate-ring opening is facilitated to some extent by an increase in the substituent steric hindrance of the coordinated dianionic ligand, whereas it is significantly slowed by an increase in its base strength.
