Potassium thioacetate(10387-40-3) is a white crystalline powder that soluble in water, used for synthesis of anti-AIDS drugs. It may cause inflammation to the skin or other mucous membranes and should be sealed in cool, dry place. The specification of potassium thioacetate is as follows:

2. Potassium thioacetate preparation
Potassium thioacetate preparation is as follows: First, put 168.2 g potassium hydroxide and 0.2 g Butylated hydroxytoluene to a 2000 ml flask 200 ml toluene and 1500 ml anhydrous isobutyl alcoho. Mix them and let them be dissolved. Then heat up 3h. Frozen it with salts to 0℃, add the mixture of acetic acid (182 g) and isobutyl alcohol(100 ml), and control the time of 1.5h. Next, stir it at room temperature, get isobutyl alcohol and toluene about 800 ml, separate out white crystal, frozen to 0 ℃, wash it with isobutyl alcohol, dry it and get white crystal about 251.7 g, the yield reaches as high as 92%.
