Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by trichloro-vinyl-silane at the ambient temperature. This reaction will need reagent trichlorosilane with the reaction time of 12 hours. This reaction will also need catalyst 10% Pt/C. The yield is about 92%.

Uses of 1,2-Bis(trichlorosilyl)ethane: it can be used to produce ethanediyl-bis-silane at the temperature of 80 - 100 °C. It will need reagent LiAlH4 and solvent dibutyl ether with the reaction time of 4 hours. The yield is about 98%.
