1-Diazo-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid Specification

The 1-Diazo-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid, with the cas registry number 887-76-3, has the systematic name and IUPAC name(which is the same) of 4-diazonio-3-hydroxynaphthalene-1-sulfonate. This is a kind of yellow needle-like crystal, and is slightly soluble in water and soluble in alkali. The production method is as below: Firstly, dissolve the 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid with caustic soda and then make the suspension with acid; Secondly, diazotize the sodium nitrite and add little copper-bath; Thirdly, diazo oxide will separate out from solution with the form of free acid or sodium salt; Lastly, go through the process of filtering, acid with vitriol to get the products.

As to its usage, it is widely applied in many ways. It could be used as the intermediate of acidic dye and mordant dyes; It could be used in synthysis of mordant dyes, azo dyes and so on.

While dealing with this chemical, you should be very cautious. This is a kind of corrosive chemicalc which may destroy living tissue on contact. Then it is highly flammable, for it may catch fire in contact with air, only needing brief contact with an ignition source, with a very low flash point or evolve highly flammable gases in contact with water.
