Preparation of Benzeneethanol,3-chloro-. Firstly, m-bromochlorobenzene is made to grignard reagent. Then the grignard reagent reacts with acetaldehyde and ammonium chloride by turns. Finally, reaction product is isolated by vacuum distillation to obtain product.

Uses of Benzeneethanol,3-chloro-: it is used to produce 2-(3-chlorophenyl)ethyl bromide. The reaction occurs with reagents 48percent aq. HBr, H2SO4 and other condition of heating for 3 hours. The yield is about 89 %.
