The Fusidic acida is bacteriostatic antibiotic with the formula C31H48O6. The IUPAC name of this chemical is (2Z)-2-[(3R,4S,5S,8S,9S,10S,11R,13R,14S,16S)-16-acetyloxy-3,11-dihydroxy-4,8,10,14-tetramethyl-2,3,4,5,6,7,9,11,12,13,15,16-dodecahydro-1H-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-17-ylidene]-6-methylhept-5-enoic acid. Uses of Fusidic acid: It is active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. But it should be combined with another antimicrobial such as rifampicin to treat serious MRSA infection. And it is often used topically in creams and eyedrops, but may also be given systemically as tablets or injections. What's more, it is also used in topical skin and eye preparations (e.g., Fucibet). The main side-effects is that it can occasionally cause liver upsets, which can produce jaundice. Other related side-effects include dark urine, lighter-than-usual feces.
