Preparation: this chemical is prepared by reaction of Chloro-trimethyl-silane with Trichloromethane. The reaction needs reagent NEt4BF4 and solvent Dimethylformamide. The reaction time is 1755 minutes. Other condition of this reaction is electroreduction, anode: Zn, cathode: stainless steel. The yield is about 94 %.

Uses: it is used to produce other chemicals. For example, it is used to produce 1-(Bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl)-1, 2, 4-triazole. The reaction needs reagent K2CO3 and solvent Dimethylformamide. The reaction time is 40 hours with reaction temperature of 60 °C. The yield is about 61 %.
