Lithium hydride Uses

Lithium hydride(CAS NO.7580-67-8) is used as place the military on the hydrogen source, reducing agent in organic synthesis.

Lithium hydride Production

In the oven, take lithium into the tube made by stainless steel, sealed and vacuum, and then pass into the hydrogen . When the hydrogen pressure is 1 atm, and the temperature is 725 °C,  maintainning for 15h. while continuing to pass the case of hydrogen to carry out cooling, remove reactant from the oven into the bottle sealed with nitrogen. The product should be stored in the dark. Its

Lithium hydride Consensus Reports

Reported in EPA TSCA Inventory. EPA Extremely Hazardous Substances List.

Lithium hydride Safety Profile

Poison by inhalation. A severe eye, skin, and mucous membrane irritant. Upon contact with moisture, lithium hydroxide is formed. The LiOH formed is very caustic and therefore highly toxic, particularly to lungs and respiratory tract, skin, and mucous membranes. The powder ignites spontaneously in air. The solid can ignite spontaneously in moist air. Mixtures of the powder with liquid oxygen are explosive. Ignites on contact with dinitrogen oxide, oxygen + moisture. To fight fire, use special mixtures of dry chemical. See also LITHIUM COMPOUNDS and HYDRIDES.
Hazard Codes: F,C,T
Risk Statements: 14-34-25-14/15
R14: Reacts violently with water
R34: Causes burns
R25: Toxic if swallowed
R14/15: Reacts violently with water, liberating extremely flammable gases
Safety Statements: 16-26-27-36/37/39-7/8-45-25
S16: Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking
S26: In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice
S27: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing
S45: In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show label where possible)
S25: Avoid contact with eyes
S36/37/39: Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection
S7/8: Keep container tightly closed and dry

Lithium hydride Specification

Lithium hydride , its cas register number is 7580-67-8. It also can be called Hydrure de lithium ; and Lithium monohydride . Lithium hydride(7580-67-8) is the compound of lithium and hydrogen. It is a colourless crystalline solid, although commercial samples appear gray. With a molecular mass of slightly less than 8, it is the lightest ionic compound.
It is hazardous, so the first aid measures and others should be known. Such as: When on the skin: first, should flush skin with plenty of water immediately for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. Secondly, get medical aid. Or in the eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Then get medical aid soon. While, it's inhaled: Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. Give artificial respiration while not breathing. When breathing is difficult, give oxygen. And as soon as to get medical aid. Then you have the ingesting of the product: If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
In addition, Lithium hydride (CAS NO.7580-67-8) is not compatible with strong oxidizing agents, acids, alcohols, oxygen, chlorine, and you must not take it with incompatible materials, light, ignition sources, exposure to air, exposure to moist air or water. And also prevent it to broken down into hazardous decomposition products: hydrogen gas, lithium hydroxide.
