Sulfur pentafluoride (CAS NO.5714-22-7) is also called Disulfur decafluoride ; TL 70 ; Disulphur decafluoride ; Sulfur decafluoride ; Sulfur fluoride ; Sulfur fluoride (S2F10) . Sulfur pentafluoride (CAS NO.5714-22-7) is colorless volatile liquid or gas with an odor like sulfur dioxide. Each S of the S2F10 molecule is octahedral, and surrounded by 5 fluorines. It is insoluble in water and very toxic by inhalation. Sulfur pentafluoride (CAS NO.5714-22-7) is non-combustible. Decomposes when heated above 400 °C in air to generate toxic and corrosive fumes of sulfur oxides and sulfur fluorides. Shows little chemical reactivity at room conditions. Acts as a strong oxidizing agent and as a fluorinating agent at elevated temperature as Sulfur pentafluoride (CAS NO.5714-22-7) begins to break down. Reacts rapidly with molten caustics such as NaOH or KOH.
